چکیده

In model-based computer vision it is necessary to have a geometric model of the object the pose of which is being estimated. In this paper a very compact model of the shoulder complex and arm is presented. First an investigation of the anatomy of the arm and the shoulder is conducted to identify the primary joints and degrees of freedom. To model the primary joints we apply image features and clinical data. Our model only requires two parameters to describe the configuration of the arm. It is denoted the local screw axis model since a new representation is produced for each image. In the light of this model we have a closer look at the parameters in the shoulder complex. We show how to eliminate the effects of these parameters by estimating their values in each image. This is done based on experimental data found in the literature together with an investigation of the movement of the bones in the shoulder the “shoulder rhythm” as a function of the position of the hand in the image. Finally we justify our approach by comparing the model with real data. Similar tendencies are reported, suggesting a valid modelling scheme.

Kinematics and Dynamic Modelling of the Human Shoulder

This paper deals with kinematics and dynamics of the human shoulder in order to obtain the workspace related to the reachability of the wrist and applications to determine load for the wheelchair. The model contains six revolute degrees of freedom (D.O.F), two in costoclavicular and three in the shoulder joint and one in the elbow joint, while a six D.O.F model was developed according to given ...

Pose estimation is a process to identify how a human body and/or individual limbs are configured in a given scene. Hand pose estimation is an important research topic which has a variety of applications in human-computer interaction (HCI) scenarios, such as gesture recognition, animation synthesis and robot control. However, capturing the hand motion is quite a challenging task due to its high ...

Image-Guided Analysis of Shoulder Pathologies: Modelling the 3D Deformation of the Subacromial Space during Arm Flexion and Abduction

This paper describes a simple, yet efficient method for modelling complex musculo-skeletal structures in motion. The proposed approach contains three main modules: segmentation, 3D reconstruction, and feature extraction. The segmentation module integrates region and edge information in a coherent manner. The 3D reconstruction technique is based on morphological morphing between adjacent slices ...

Definition of anatomical zero positions for assessing shoulder pose with 3D motion capture during bilateral abduction of the arms.

BACKGROUND Surgical interventions at the shoulder may alter function of the shoulder complex. Clinically, the outcome can be assessed by universal goniometry. Marker-based motion capture may not resemble these results due to differing angle definitions. METHODS The clinical inspection of bilateral arm abduction for assessing shoulder dysfunction is performed with a marker based 3D optical mea...
